Clear Skies | North Carolina Weather 6 PM

Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the North Carolina Weather Podcast for Wednesday, February 25th. Right now? Fifty eight degrees and clear skies. Late February giving us a gift. Soak up every last drop of it.. Because tonight the rain comes knocking. A cold front is stalling right over us. And moisture is stacking up behind it. Western North Carolina sees showers first, around 8 P.M. The Piedmont and Triangle? Rain arrives after 9 P.M. By midnight, the whole state is getting soaked. Thursday is the main event. Steady rain all day. The Piedmont and Triangle pick up one to two inches. The mountains see about a half to three quarters of an inch. Now before you groan, remember we've been dealing with drought. This is the kind of rain your lawn has been begging for. Flooding risk stays low. Highs reach 60 degrees in the Piedmont, 57 degrees out west. Southwest winds gust to 20 miles an hour, so grab that rain jacket, not the flimsy umbrella. Rain tapers off Thursday night, pulling away from northwest to southeast. Friday dries out under cloudy skies. Highs settle into the mid 50s across the board. Nothing exciting, but nothing painful either. Now the weekend.. This is where it gets good. Saturday brings sunshine and mid 60s. Sunday pushes into the lower 70s across the Piedmont and Triangle, upper 60s in the mountains. That's patio weather in February, folks. The kind of afternoon where you forget what month it's. Don't get too comfortable though. Monday and Tuesday, another front rolls through with more rain chances. Cooler air rides in behind it. Highs drop to the upper 40s up north, upper 50s down south. I'll be tracking that Thursday rain all night. Charge your phone and set out those rain boots by the door.
