Climate protesters stop Tour de France momentarily, but the climate crisis could stop it permanently

Climate protesters (pictured) who glued themselves to the roadway momentarily stopped a recent stage of the Tour de France, but the climate crisis has the potential to stop it permanently. What began as notes for a new episode of Climate Conversations became the essence of a column for my local newspaper, The Shepparton News and so I figured I would share it with my listeners. The 60 km ride mentioned in this episode continued on an annual basis for about a decade and at its height was attracting about 150 riders from throughout the Goulburn Valley. It was known as the "Toaster Ride" as midway through the course, someone for reasons unknown to me, had tied an old toaster on a tree branch overhanging the roadway. Participants enjoyed the ride and upon returning to Shepparton, were treated to coffee and toast, which was served up as part of their entry fee - profits, as small as they were, went to local charities.
