Cling: Tested, But Not Destroyed: 2 Corinthians 4:7-18

from Walk With Me · host Alisa

One of the most honest things 1 Peter taught us is that following Jesus doesn't make us immune to suffering.Faith doesn't mean life stops hurting.Peter wrote to believers who were experiencing real hardship, and instead of telling them that their struggles meant God had abandoned them, he showed them how to remain faithful in the middle of them.Paul gives us another beautiful picture of that in 2 Corinthians 4.He says:"We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair."I love the honesty of that.Afflicted.Perplexed.Paul doesn't pretend everything is okay. But notice what he says next:Not crushed. Not driven to despair. The Christian life isn't the promise that we won't be shaken. It's the promise that we don't have to be destroyed by what shakes us.Because our strength isn't ultimately coming from us.Paul describes us as jars of clay carrying something precious.Fragile.Ordinary.Breakable.And yet somehow still carrying the treasure of Christ.Maybe that's where some of you are right now.You feel like a jar of clay.Tired.Fragile.Worn down.Maybe you're not feeling particularly strong spiritually. But here's the good news:God doesn't require you to be unbreakable. His power is displayed through our weakness. You can be struggling and still have faith. You can be hurting and still have hope. You can feel weak and still be held by God.The goal isn't to become someone who never gets shaken. It's to become someone who knows where to turn when you are.Key TruthOur weakness does not disqualify us from God's work; His strength is made visible through our dependence on Him.💬 ReflectWhere are you feeling most fragile or overwhelmed right now, and what would it look like to depend on God's strength instead of trying to hold everything together yourself?
