Closing Session - Tabula Rasa Online Retreat with David Hoffmeister and Frances Xu - September 2021The Holy Spirit is all about giving and extending, and the ego is all about getting and controlling. The ego doesn't mind the concept of giving as long as it can 'tack on' to the getting. I'll give this to you if you let me get this back in return. Jesus says that's not really giving at all. God didn't create us as pure spirit and say, "...and by the way, here are my demands, and here are the conditions of what you have to give me back. God just radiated pure light and joy and spirit, total communion simply because God is that way. But in terms of this world, which is a world of ego projection, reciprocity is the key principle. Everything in the ego's world is reciprocal. And Jesus tells us right out in the course that we have to undo the belief in reciprocity. So, whether we're talking about being a minister, or whether we're talking about being a meditation teacher, or we're talking about just being happy, happiness will come from giving and not from the getting mechanism of the ego. No one who is in the getting mode will ever find lasting happiness.
