Cloudy | North Carolina Weather Noon

from The North Carolina Weather Podcast

Good afternoon! I'm Aaron Jolly. Welcome to the North Carolina Weather Podcast for Wednesday, February 25th. Step outside right now and North Carolina feels pretty decent. Forty six degrees, overcast, dry. Enjoy that dry part.. Because it won't last. The Triangle is the warm spot today, climbing to 61 degrees. Southwest winds gust to 29 miles an hour this afternoon, so your hair isn't surviving lunch. The Piedmont lands right behind at 59 degrees with gusts pushing 30 miles an hour. Now push west into the mountains. Partly sunny skies up there. Highs reach 56 degrees with calmer winds. Honestly, the mountains win today. Tonight is where everything flips. Rain hits the mountains first, around 7 P.M. Then it creeps east. The Piedmont and Triangle get wet around 10 P.M. Lows stay mild though. Upper 40s to low 50s. You won't need the heavy coat. You'll need the umbrella. Thursday is the soaker. Rain is likely statewide through midday. Highs hit 62 in the Piedmont, 60 in the Triangle, 59 in the mountains. Some spots could see over half an inch of rain. Friday lingers damp with scattered showers and highs dipping into the mid 50s. Now the payoff. High pressure rolls in for the weekend. Saturday turns mostly sunny, mid 60s. Sunday? Gorgeous. The Piedmont flirts with 70 degrees. Upper 60s everywhere else. We're gaining two minutes of daylight every single day now. Spring equinox is three weeks out. You can almost smell the azaleas. Early next week, a backdoor cold front knocks highs back to the upper 50s with another round of rain by Tuesday. Classic February tease. If you can sneak outside this afternoon, do it. Tomorrow you're dodging puddles. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
