plus 62 trying to do math here, coach. I don't know if it can help us out. What math? So she gets eight more to become the all-time leader about her in any age.
So today, I popped a silver triangle. Coach Elberg. Geometry. Geometry.
So we told it, exactly. Coach Elberg here, talking math on the Kooter Post Game Show. Coach, do you get the win 72 to 62 in this game? And the biggest thing that we got to talk about is the 2015 quarterfinal game against Hastings.
Obviously, a controversial call. It's been talked around by Rob Zinga, Brandon Swanson, Brezzer Mira's even chiming in a little bit. Obviously, a loss that you don't want to hold you back. Something that's always fresh in a Cougars mind with the controversy that ended this game.
You come in, a similar situation, the quarterfinals against Hastings. How much does this victory mean to you? Do you even think back at that 2015 game with this victory? So let me be honest with you.
Always want you to be honest. It's another victory. I don't compare games. I can't remember 2017, let alone 2015.
I got a lot going on my head all the time and by age. And when you coach as long as I do, the victories are still great. I still, to the final four tutors in a row, I still enjoy it. That's why I keep doing it.
But no matter what happens one night to the next, there's no carry-over basketball. You heard me say that before. Can we beat Dakota Wesley on Monday? Sure, we can.
Can we go to Wesley and be not sure? We're on a roll there on a roll. But when the jump ball goes up, it's a whole new brand new ball game. There's no such thing really in coaching that we've had in grads matches, what's up with Team two against the two years ago.
There's really not any carry-over. You start freshly time you play. And very simply, I hope to score one more point than the other team and move on. So I'm very proud of the way they put three ball games together.
We knew that when we lost Mccainla Layton from last year, the quarterback of our team, it would be hard to repeat. Because sure, we got to start with coming back. But she was the glue. And everybody has stepped up.
And Tommy, you know, we got her opportunity. Last year, it was Sammy Pollock that didn't play much and stepped up against Concordia. And at five points coming down this bench. Did everyone in the coach just got to call your number?
He just got to be ready for the come off the bench. She had some key shots, including that three late in the ball game. So speak about players that are coming off the bench, not knowing when their number is going to get called. Are you 100% confident in anyone on that bench to go in at any time?
You know, that's a very interesting question, right? Because a player has to have a tremendous amount of confidence in their own game. One thing a coach can't give you is confidence. And over your career, Christina, you hear people say, I've heard high school teams and say, you know, the coach destroyed my confidence.
I said, if he did, he gave it up. Nobody can take that away from you if you have confidence. So that's what McCure and Colicki said. It's a great ball player.
Forget about all the points and everything she does for a team. She has a tremendous confidence in herself. She could miss 20 in a row, but she's going to take the big shot in the game. I need players out of my bench to all have confidence.
Some are struggling with that right now. And I can understand that because they haven't got the playing time. But you have to end it again, with a high degree of confidence. When a player gets out, it makes three mistakes.
And says to your coach, I was just getting into the flow. I said, when you had to come off the bench and get into the flow, you made three mistakes in a minute. If I left you in, then you were at nine mistakes. So you have confidence in your players a lot.
But nobody can give that to them. A player either has had in his heart, or they don't have. She doesn't have it in her heart. Unfortunately, I think we've got a very confident team.
Well, coach, looking at players that had that confidence today, and a player that's been growing confidence, obviously, they're not going to compare to the freshman last year of Chanel Fanezer and Mediwell's, or having the confidence. And lighting up this tournament last year. But Gabby Craikis, you called on her after not calling on her on the morning side. She comes in as a really impressive eight minutes.
Goes to the line, hits five of six shots. Gabby obviously injured throughout this season, but it seems like she's gaining her confidence throughout this year. Are you expecting more from Gabby throughout this tournament? What are your expectations for the freshman?
Part of that, Sean, is you've got to know inside and out the strengths and weaknesses of your team and your players. Gabby is much better in his own than a man to man. She's gotten beat too easily on man to man defenses. She's very good and aggressive in his own because she's so quick.
So we went into the zone. I thought this was the type of game for her. She's extremely fast. And this is the type of game where you need some quickness.
They were a little slower. And yet she's very good at the bottom of his own. And that's why I put her out there. Getting the free throws into a lot of my freshman.
And that's the opposite side of confidence. They haven't had the time out there. You know, we've got to remember to put somebody in the game. You've got to take somebody out.
So Brittany and our four returning players take up so many minutes. There's not been a lot of time for other players. The time will come next year. But if I put somebody in to give them confidence, I have a hard time putting Brittany and Cara and Chanel and Manny out of the game sometimes.
So that's why they go. That's why they log in so many minutes. There are seasoned veterans. They all were here last year.
And some of them have been here four years. So they should come out here knowing what it's all about. They relaxed. I'm going to kind of jump forward into the game on Monday against Dakota Wesleyan.
You saw how their fans were earlier today. What is going to be your main focus for that game on Monday? Well, speaking of the fans, I was sitting up in the top. And I was thinking there was 900 calls that said calling both ways, Coach, a referee.
There was 200 that said, what game were you looking at today, Coach? There was about 350 that said, what game are you watching? What, you know, so all the two were screaming at the ref the whole game. They said, no, but I see a blue up there.
I'm up at the top scallion. And the referee didn't make one good call the whole game. As far as the team goes, well, they got the great shooters. And the shooters are tall and wide.
20 and 30 are much thicker than our players. We haven't spent a lot of time in the weight room. We could probably tell by that. Oh, no, I could not.
I think we got some vegetarians on the team, whatever they do to stay so steady. But we're up against a lot of bulk on Monday. They're physical. We got to be ready for that physical play.
I don't think we're going to get away with his own against that team. They were drilling him from the Twilight Zone today. So you pick your defense based out of the offense of the other team. There's no way we're going to be able to come out and defend Dakota Wesleyan with his own.
Everybody they got in the game that they're shooting from all over the place was a great displayer. I think they had 18 to 19 three. Yeah, they finished with 15 to shiny. NAI tournament record.
They're picking apart that S3 2 zone. But one thing that was different from you and S3 is you guys have the ethics since the final question coach. You're probably the most athletic team in this tournament. How much is this team getting by on athleticism?
Or is it just all around talent from this team? It just happens that every single player on the floor is athletic. Well, the worst combination of basketball shot is small and slow. They say, well, she's small, but she's fast.
She better be. Small and slow. You're like a turtle. You're going to be the worst basketball player in the world.
So if you're skinny and not long and not physical, you better be fast. And that's the type of kids we try to bring into our program. Most of the kids, even the kids that are playing a lot of the freshmen, our practices, usually the practice. It's a trap.
You're up and down the floor. There's nobody best going to get it. So sure, that's our strength. Our strength isn't kicking somebody on the boards.
Our strength isn't a physical type of game. Our strength is you might take advantage of it when in down there because of size and bulk. But you're going to have to match up to four people that are pretty good on the perimeter and when in the post. If you spend too much time on the post, you're going to jump shot.
You spend too much time on the threes. We're going to get the ball on the brick. So fortunately, we are very athletic. Because if we were that skinny and non athletic, you'd be in trouble.
Coach, congratulations on back to back. Some of your final appearances is now your third all time in your coaching career. Hopefully, you will have the ring to go with it after this year. Congrats.
And we will see you on Monday against the podium. At 6 PM. Thank you very much. I'm going to join us for the post game party at famous Dave's Barbecue Beefley.
We'll be there. We'll be there. We're right across the way. We got the room reserved.
Thank you. Thanks, Coach. We will see you at famous Dave's tonight as well. Coach Hauver, getting another win.
481 in his career at St. Xavier and the women's basketball side. He's closing in on 1,000. He's not going to hit it this year.
But one more year of Cougar basketball and 30 wins. He will surpass 1,000 career wins in college. The basketball, congrats to Coach on his win. 72 62 here in Sioux City, Iowa.
