🎧 Coach Peanut Tuitele | You Got NextSome people stay in the game because they love basketball.For Coach Peanut Tuitele, basketball helped shape—and save—her life.On this episode of SportsLifeTalk’s You Got Next, Savage Season introduces one of the fast-rising young coaches in women’s college basketball: Charleston Southern assistant coach Peanut Tuitele.A proud Samoan from Chico, California, Peanut fell in love with basketball at just five years old after a preschool teacher saw her shooting and encouraged her parents to invest in the game.From there, basketball became more than a sport.It became her safe haven.Her father taught her early that somebody was always working, so she needed to OUTWORK them. That meant 6 a.m. “Breakfast Club” workouts in the sandpit while everyone else was sleeping.She hated it then.She understands it now. 😂That work helped Peanut become an All-State standout at Pleasant Valley High School before taking her game to the University of Colorado. With the Buffaloes, she scored more than 800 career points, grabbed more than 500 rebounds, and embraced doing the dirty work.At 6-foot-1, Peanut wasn't backing down from anybody.Ruthy Hebard. The Sabally sisters. Cameron Brink.Bring it.Her mentality was simple:“I was a dog.”But some of Peanut’s biggest battles happened away from basketball.She opens up about how Colorado head coach JR Payne and her staff supported her during one of the lowest periods of her life. They didn't simply see a basketball player—they saw a person who needed love and support.That experience helped shape the coach she is today.After finishing her playing career, Peanut followed another example set by her father: COACHING.Watching the lasting impact her dad had on his players showed Peanut that coaching could become her way of giving back to the game that had given her so much.Her journey began at LSU Shreveport, where she joined Coach Tim Hays and helped the Pilots win a regular-season championship.When Hays took over at Charleston Southern, he brought Peanut with him.Why?Because she's a servant leader.Peanut describes herself as the auntie who will love you, support you—and CHECK YOU when necessary. 😂She's the coach whose players can call after office hours. She's in the gym on weekends. She understands what student-athletes are experiencing because she recently lived it herself.At Charleston Southern, she's helping build a program centered around people over product, relationships, defense, pace, and playing for one another.And don't blink.The Buccaneers want to RUN.Their goal is to turn defense into offense and attack within the first six seconds.But Peanut's playing career isn't completely finished either.She received an opportunity she once thought might never come:Representing American Samoa. 🇦🇸After stepping away from playing and moving into coaching, Peanut received the call to represent her people on the international stage.For a woman who takes tremendous pride in her Samoan heritage, it's bigger than basketball.It's REPRESENTATION.Peanut wants the next generation of Polynesian girls to see athletes like her, Alissa Pili and Te-Hina Paopao and understand that basketball belongs to them, too.Then there's the SportsLifeTalk Initiation.Her playlist brings the islands with Fiji, Spawnbreezie and J Boog before adding Jazmine Sullivan and Moneybagg Yo.Black Widow is her superhero because she doesn't need superpowers—just straight combat skills. 😂Her karaoke choice?Adele.Did she sing?Absolutely not. 😂Her favorite WNBA player is Diana Taurasi for one simple reason:DOG MENTALITY.SPORTS IS LIFE.
