Hello coffee lovers, in between interviews on why we need to meet up over coffee. I'll share short episodes that delve into all things coffee, think of them as a shot of espresso. Now, here's your coffee culture short on polishing a very coffee lovers, how is coffee consumed in Italy? And why are they so obsessed with their coffee. So I'm going to take you back in time, I was in Florence. And I noticed that there were so many bars that would have coffee was featured very differently than it is in the US. You know, here we go into a coffee shop. And we can sit in there, we can grab our computer, we could do some work, we can meet a friend. Or we could take it to go in a paper cup. I mean, you see people walking around all the time with their cup of coffee, right? In Italy, they don't do it like that you have like these bars with counters, usually like a beautiful little marble counter. And so during the day, you would go there for coffee. So if you're walking around the city, for example, and you go in there, and it's generally they serve you espresso that's kind of like the go to coffee by default. And it's never flavored. And they serve it very often like on a little tray, like a small little tray with a glass of water and a small biscotti. And here's the funny thing, like you can never ask for a cappuccino. Because after about 11am, it is the worst thing you could possibly ask for it actually like screams American in the room. We're just fine if you enjoy your cappuccino at three o'clock anywhere, but when you're in Italy, you should try going to the bar and getting the espresso with a little Piscotty and sort of absorbing that type of culture, which is really cool. And I really loved. That experience was very new to me. I was very used to getting coffee, like in a cup to go and walking around. But for them, it's a bit of a ritual when you show up. So I also found this fun fact about Italy, that there is the city of Tria stay at and the people there drink an average of 1500 cups of coffee a year, which is twice the average of Italy. It's also the location of the universe, Sita del cafe, founded in 1999 by Ellie, and Ilya is a coffee company, you've probably seen their cute little white espresso cups when you've gone into little cafes. And it was created to spread the culture of quality coffee, through training all over the world. And so I guess that's where the barista enters, right? That that whole design of learning how to make the perfect cup of coffee, and even the name. I mean, I guess barista is more Italian, but we refer to them here as baristas, which I think is kind of cool. I also found that the oldest coffeehouse in Italy is called Cafe Florian, and it's in Venice, and has been there since 1720. So I will put a link in there because one day I'm going to refer back to this podcast myself. And I'm going to click that link so that I can go to cafe Florian. I did go to their website, and I'm taking this from their website, they wrote, taking a seat at the cafe becomes at the same time and experience and a journey through history. A luxury ritual in pure Florian style, waiters in livery, and impeccable service strictly on silver trays. Wayna Sarah, my coffee lovers. Share your thoughts and ideas on coffee culture. You could put them in the reviews on Apple podcasts or DM me on Instagram. And if you'd like to support an indie podcaster there is the link in the show notes for buying me a coffee.
