Sam Walsh was Rio Tinto chief executive from January 2013 to July 2016, the culmination of a 25-year career with the international mining group. Sam was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2010 and was awarded a Gold Medal by the Australian Institute of Company Director in 2012 . A strong supporter of the arts, Sam serves on the Board of the Arts Council of Australia and is patron of the Western Australian State Theatre.
