Coffee Tasting Adventures: Exploring the Flavor Wheel and Celebrating Traditions

from Coffee Beanery | Sip & Share

Hey Coffee Lovers! We had such a fun time diving deep into the world of coffee tasting! This morning, we brewed up some delightful batches using our coffee machine for convenience. Normally, serious coffee tasters would cup the coffee to savor its full flavor profile, but today we kept it simple. We started with our breakfast blend, which is one of our favorites—smooth, mellow, and a bit nutty, with hints of vanilla sweetness. It's definitely on the medium-bodied side, giving that velvety feel without overwhelming the palate. We chatted about the fascinating world of super tasters—those lucky folks with extra taste buds who can detect subtle notes in coffee that most of us might miss. It's a highly skilled job, and our brother Logan, with his refined palate, can pinpoint flavors like a pro. We might have to do a special segment on super tongues soon! As we tasted, we explored the coffee flavor wheel, identifying different notes and discussing how factors like mouthfeel and acidity (not pH, but that bright, citrusy quality) play into the overall experience. For example, our French Roast, which borders on the dark spectrum, has a heavier mouthfeel and brings out dark chocolate and spice notes without being too bitter. We also reminisced about our trip to Costa Rica, where we saw coffee rust firsthand—a fungus that can devastate crops. Coffee is such a delicate commodity, and its market can be affected by everything from bugs to weather. Our team works hard to secure the best beans, predicting market trends and ensuring we get the highest quality. We shared some fun moments too, like when we brewed special batches in our store and customers flocked to try them. Our house blend, Beanery Blend, remains a favorite among our team for its balanced, nutty flavor with hints of green tea and citrus. Speaking of special flavors, we talked about our subscription boxes. This month's theme is Ice Cream Social, a partnership with our friends who own an ice cream truck. They even did the social media photoshoot for us! We loved creating these flavors and were thrilled to hear that our ice cream truck friends thought we nailed it. We hope you enjoyed this coffee tasting journey with us. Don't forget to try using a flavor wheel with your morning cup—you might be surprised at what you discover. Have a wonderful week and a fantastic Father's Day, whether you're spending it with your dad or another special guy in your life. We’re taking our dads to see Raiders of the Lost Ark at the theater—so nostalgic and fun! Thank you for joining us, and happy sipping!
