Coginchaug at Guilford - Girls Basketball - 12/28/17

The Guilford girls had to grind to their 58-48 win over Coginchaug. The first half saw them all out of sorts. Their team Captain Julia Hyman was in early foul trouble, their trademark execution not their and their defense uncharacteristically allowing easy baskets. Add in Guilford missing free throws and wide open layups, and you get a 29-17 halftime deficit. The second half was a different story. The Lady Indians strapped in and turned up the defensive intensity and fought their way back into the game. To hear player of the game Molly Linell (13 points, 11 in the 2nd half)tell it, "We knew that we didn't play well and we knew that we could come back." She wasn't kidding. Her 3 pointer with less than 3 minutes to go in the 4th quarter sparked a run to a lead that they would never relinquish. The victory kept Guilford undefeated on the season and handed Coginchaug their first loss of the season.
