Longitudinal health research studies conducted in South Africa, Brazil, Guatemala, and the Philippines have concluded that early child development, and ensuring that all children stay in school are the keys to ensuring that these children maximize their intellectual potential. The investigators, aiming to generalise data and analysis to inform health interventions in developing countries, formed the Consortium on Health-Orientated Research in Transitioning Societies or COHORTS.
