Collins' Kavanaugh Vote Under Fire | US News

Democrats are weaponizing Senator Susan Collins’ 2018 vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh—now a key figure in overturning Roe v. Wade—as a political liability, arguing she can’t credibly claim to support abortion rights after backing someone who helped dismantle the landmark decision. With pro-choice groups pouring $250K into targeted mailers across Maine and ramping up a national effort, voters are being asked to connect Collins’ past action directly to today’s crisis. Collins defends her vote, saying she never regretted it—even though she opposed Dobbs—and highlights her own bipartisan work to protect abortion access federally. Meanwhile, her opponent Troy Jackson is being held accountable for his shifting positions on the issue. This election, the first since Roe’s fall, has turned Collins’ legacy into a flashpoint, with both sides investing heavily in a race that’s now a national referendum on reproductive freedom.
