Colossians 2:16–23
from Ramah Baptist Church Hosted by Ramah Baptist Church
This is the morning sermon at Ramah Baptist Church in Palmetto, GA on October 25, 2026. In this sermon from Colossians 2:16–23, Paul warns believers against three dangerous errors that threaten to draw them away from the sufficiency of Jesus Christ: legalism, mysticism, and asceticism. First, he confronts legalism (vv. 16–17), reminding us that religious regulations and ceremonies were shadows pointing to the reality found in Christ. Second, he warns against mysticism (vv. 18–19), exposing the danger of spiritual experiences and practices that distract from Christ, the true Head of the church. Finally, he addresses asceticism (vv. 20–23), demonstrating that man-made rules and harsh treatment of the body have no power to overcome sinful desires. Throughout this passage, Paul reminds us that genuine spiritual life and growth come not through human traditions, mystical experiences, or self-imposed religion, but through union with Jesus Christ and dependence upon Him.
