Colossians 3:16-17 - Torn Down but Built Back Up

from Pastor Mike Impact Ministries · host Michael L Grooms

Today, Wednesday June 16 Torn Down but Built Back Up Colossians 3:16-17 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. It is so easy to get torn down in this chaotic and crazy world that we live in today! Listen to news for a few minutes and you start feeling discouraged. Go on Facebook or social media and read a few post and you will feel torn down. Go to work and have to deal with jealousy, malice, greed, dirty jokes and you get torn down. Sometimes even at church where there is a culture of gossip, slander and mistrust, you go back home all torn up inside. Raising children in today’s culture can also leave you feeling torn down and zapped of energy for anything else. That’s why it is so important to get built back up!!!!! And how do you do that? The Apostle Paul warned the elders of the church at Ephesus that they would get “torn down” with the false teachers that would sneak into their church. His answer for them was, “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” (Acts 20:32) I have noticed over the years that in one way or another, every book in the New Testament encourages us to engage ourselves in the Word of God on a regular daily basis. When you are reading, studying and meditating on the “Word of His grace”, your soul and spirit are being renewed and restored! James said, “And receive with meekness the implanted Word which is able to save (restore) your soul.” (James 1:21) What is the evidence of a “built up”, renewed and restored soul? You will find yourself “singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” (v.16) You will also have confidence “that everything you say or do will be under the authority, (in the name) of the Lord Jesus.” (v. 17) And your heart will be filled with gratefulness and your mouth with praise and thanksgiving! Today, if you are feeling torn down, by the grace of God, get “built back up” through the “Word of Christ”! Take time to read Psalm 1 and 23! “He restores my soul…” God bless!
