Colts Cast: Colts eliminated from playoff picture, embarrassed by Saints on MNF

The Indianapolis Colts came into their Monday Night Football matchup with the New Orleans Saints with very slim odds to earn a playoff berth. After their performance in the Superdome, it was obvious that the Colts did not deserve to play in the postseason. Thus, with the 34-7 loss, the Colts were eliminated from contention in embarrassing fashion. The Colts were dominated by Drew Brees and the Saints' offense, as he broke Peyton Manning's career touchdown record as well as Philip Rivers' mark for the most accurate game in NFL history with a 97 percent completion rate (29-of-30). Meanwhile, Jacoby Brissett and the Colts' offense were never able to get anything started to combat what the Saints were able to do throughout the game. Of their 8 possessions, the Colts punted on 6, turned the ball over on downs once, and were only able to score on their final drive of the game. The Colts were 3 of 12 on third down opportunities, totaled 205 yards on the night, and were only able to get a piece of Brees twice (zero sacks), and also only ran for 46 yards which is considered to be the team's identity. It was ugly. Brissett was inaccurate, and has put truly disgusting back-to-back first halves against the Bucs and Saints (11-of-31), and has yet to prove to Colts' fans that he deserves to be given the keys to the franchise as the team's quarterback of the future. After such a disappointing loss, and performance in general, there will continue to be a lot of questions asked between now and the NFL Draft about how the team can improve to become legitimate playoff, and Super Bowl contenders. It certainly feels like they're further away today than they were at the beginning of the season. The Colts sit at 6-8, and finish the season against the Carolina Panthers this Sunday, then against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 17. Learn more about your ad choices.
