Colts Cast: Colts lack of firepower fails them in Thursday night 17-20 loss to Texans

from Indianapolis Football Podcast · host SB Nation

The Indianapolis Colts were set up to take control of the AFC South with a huge road win against the Houston Texans Thursday night, but their lack of downfield attack, and inability to stop the Texans' playmakers put them on the losing end of this 17-20 final. T.Y. Hilton was back in action, but was limited. The running game was effective, the defense was largely stout, and kept the Texans' running game in check for most of the night. However, the Colts' passing game was anemic at best. They completed only 4 passes to their wide receiver corps for the entire game, and failed to take any legitimate shots in attempt to break the game open when they held the lead. Additionally, the Colts remained steady with their running attack when they fell behind late in the game, and ultimately they were unable to take advantage of the opportunities they were presented. The Colts were excellent on third down, didn't commit a lot of penalties, but still only managed about 4.5 yards per play despite dominating time of possession. Deshaun Watson connected on big plays to Will Fuller V, and DeAndre Hopkins (2 touchdowns), and aside from a couple field goals, that was all it took to take down the Colts when so much of their game was good enough to take the victory. Today on the Colts Cast, Matt Danely dives in to the issues plaguing the Colts' offense, and how there's plenty of blame to go around between the receivers, Jacoby Brissett, and Frank Reich himself.
