This week’s Come Follow Me for Teens episode focuses on 2 Samuel 11–12 and 1 Kings 3–11: “Hear Thou in Heaven Their Prayer.” In these chapters, we study three powerful lessons that can help teens understand the choices of the heart, the need for wisdom and discernment, and the blessings available through the temple: David’s fall and the danger of spiritual drift, Solomon’s request for an understanding heart, and Solomon’s prayer at the dedication of the temple. David’s fall teaches us that spiritual danger often begins with small choices. David had faced Goliath with faith, but later fell through a series of “switch points” where one wrong choice led to another. His story warns teens about hidden sin, justification, delayed repentance, and the danger of allowing the heart to drift from the Lord. Solomon’s request for an understanding heart teaches youth the importance of seeking wisdom from God. When the Lord invited Solomon to ask for anything, Solomon asked for the ability to discern between good and bad. His example reminds teens that they need the Lord’s help to recognize truth, resist temptation, follow the Spirit, listen to prophets, and notice opportunities to serve and lift others. Solomon’s prayer at the temple dedication teaches about the blessings of the house of the Lord. In 1 Kings 8, Solomon prayed for the Lord’s presence, forgiveness, direction, restoration, healing, protection, compassion, and hearts inclined to walk in God’s ways. These blessings point teens to the power of temple worship, covenant living, and turning their hearts toward Jesus Christ. This episode invites teens to ask: What small choices are shaping the direction of my heart? Where do I need the Lord’s wisdom and discernment? How can I turn my heart more fully toward the temple and the Savior? The message of these chapters is deeply relevant for teens today: small choices matter, God can help us see clearly, and the temple points our hearts to Jesus Christ, where we can find forgiveness, direction, healing, strength, and peace.
