What this episode covers
This week’s Come Follow Me for Teens episode focuses on 2 Kings 2–7: “There Is a Prophet in Israel.” In these chapters, we study the ministry and miracles of the prophet Elisha and learn powerful lessons about Jesus Christ, prophets, simple obedience, healing, and spiritual sight. Through the widow’s oil, Naaman’s healing, and Elisha’s servant seeing the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire, teens are invited to see that the Lord’s help is real, His prophets point us to Christ, and heaven is closer than we sometimes realize. The widow’s oil teaches youth that Jesus Christ can pay the debts we cannot pay and provide what we cannot provide on our own. When the widow came to Elisha, she was overwhelmed by a debt she could not solve and the possibility of losing her sons. Through the prophet’s direction, the Lord multiplied what seemed small and made it enough. Her story helps teens understand that prophets are not a replacement for Christ — they are servants of Christ who help bring us to Him. As we follow the Lord’s prophets, we can receive greater access to the Savior’s power to redeem, provide, bless, and free us from bondage. Naaman’s healing teaches the power of humble obedience to simple prophetic counsel. Naaman was a respected and powerful man, but he had a need his success could not fix. When Elisha told him to wash seven times in the Jordan River, Naaman was offended because the answer seemed too simple and not what he expected. But when he humbled himself and obeyed, he was healed. His story reminds teens that the Lord often works through simple things: prayer, repentance, scripture study, temple worship, keeping covenants, listening to prophets, and staying faithful even when nothing seems to be changing right away. Elisha and his servant teach youth that they are not alone, even when they feel surrounded. When the Syrian army surrounded the city, Elisha’s servant could only see danger and fear. But Elisha prayed, “Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see.” The servant’s eyes were opened, and he saw the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire. This powerful story reminds teens that the enemy may be real, but he is not the only reality. God’s help is real too. There is more power with us than against us when we stand with the Lord and His prophets. This episode invites teens to ask: How do prophets help me come closer to Jesus Christ? What simple counsel from the Lord or His prophets do I need to follow with more faith? Where do I need to pray, “Lord, open my eyes,” so I can see God’s help more clearly? The message of these chapters is deeply relevant for teens today: Jesus Christ can pay what we cannot pay, heal what we cannot heal, and help us see what we could never see on our own. As we trust Him, follow His prophets, and act in faith, we can recognize that heaven’s help is closer, stronger, and more involved in our lives than we may have realized.
