Comic Fresh King Benjamin Gets Serious About Growing Up in Polygamy

from Mormon.ish

In another comically insightful episode of Mormonish Podcast, Rebecca and Landon continue our conversation with the talented and hilarious Ben Brown, known as Fresh King Benjamin. Ben grew up on a Mormon polygamist compound and started operating his family’s business, a bakery, at age 14. Ben gets serious as we discuss this darker aspect of growing up and provides some important and emotional insights. When Ben finally left polygamy he spent a decade building a successful online education company. Eventually he felt the call to pursue his dream to be a stand-up comic and has been performing his unique brand of comedy, drawing upon his experiences growing up, ever since. Fresh King Benjamin has a comedy set coming up this weekend, Friday and Saturday, October 13-14 at Wiseguys Comedy Club in SLC, UT. This is a hilarious, ADULT show, that Rebecca and Landon have attended before and had a wonderful time. We really enjoyed getting to know Ben better in this episode and there are some really great lessons to learn from our discussion. David and Nicky have been married for 15 years and while today their marriage is somewhat great, it hasn't been without it’s own up’s, downs and break downs and break ups! Like a Virgin iHeartPodcasts A new pop culture podcast with a mix of news, cultural criticism, and comedy through a queer-trans lens, hosted by Fran Tirado and Rose Dommu.Though they are best friends now, Fran and Rose grew up very differently. Fran was a cult-ish, sheltered Christian camp counselor and Rose had a penchant for writing deranged fanfiction. Now they’re both godless heathens taking a look back at the formative classics that popped their cherries and made them who they are. Each week, the show starts off with a breakdown of the week’s pop culture news, then does a deep dive into one cultural object that one of them might be experiencing for the first time. They’ll also invite writers, comedians, activists, and entertainers to help them break it down. Follow @rosedommu and @fransquishco on Instagram and Twitter.
