Communion Reminds Us (1Cor 11.17-29) - 8-7-22

from Messages from the Word of God · host Nwankwo via Apogee

Prior to the fall, man had perfect communion with God. After the fall, the consequence of sin is man and woman now had a broken fellowship and a scarred relationship with the LORD God. God, in His infinite wisdom and grace, established redemption for humankind via the LORD and Savior, Jesus the Christ. We acknowledge and commemorate our right relationship with the Godhead via Communion. Jesus is the tie that binds us to God and one another. Communion reminds us of that.Scripture texts are Genesis 3.1-15 and 1Corinthians 11.17-29 with the subject, "Communion Reminds Us." 1. Communion reminds us of our relationship with each other in Christ. (vv17-22)a. Love your neighbor as yourself (Matt 22.39)b. What you have done to the least of these (Matt 25.34-40)c. Believers are family in Christ (Matt 12.50)2. Communion reminds us of our redemption in Christ. (vv23-26)a. Gen 3.15 – strike His heel (cross); bruise his head (resurrection)b. God required justice! But He provided mercy. The penalty was paid.c. Gone is the penalty, power, and soon the presence of sin when He comes back3. Communion reminds us of our righteousness in Christ. (vv27-29)a. Our outside reflects our inside (like a tube of toothpaste)b. Live a life that is pleasing to God by yielding to the Holy Spiritc. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit in meConclusion: Communion is not about a ritual or religion. It’s about a right relationship. Amen.
