Communion... Why?

Most of us were told by our parents to do a certain something and when we asked them why we should, they responded with, “Because I told you so.” It can be sort of like that when it comes to communion. Most of us take the bread and the cup with little real understanding of the “why” of it, other than because “Jesus said so.” Communion is one of two ritualistic practices that Jesus gave to His Church. Baptism, which we studied last Sunday, is the other. Today we want to get back in touch with the reasons why communion is such an important time in the life of the church and learn to appreciate it all over again as we learn God’s reasons for the ritual.
