Thank you for hanging in there and continuing to listen. This show is so long overdue. Lots of family stuff and work related matters to take care of but finallyacirc;euro;brvbar;here I am. People used to ask me, when I was a classroom teacher of young children, acirc;euro;tilde;how do you do it?acirc;euro;trade; I never thought much of the question, mostly because I never found teaching to be that hardacirc;euro;brvbar;that is until I stopped teaching young children full time. Now I ask myself the same question. How did I do it? My answer is the same each time. And no, I didnacirc;euro;trade;t do it for the love of the children. Donacirc;euro;trade;t get me wrong, I love working with kids itacirc;euro;trade;s just that use of the phrase acirc;euro;tilde;for the love of the childrenacirc;euro;trade; has been a great way of positioning teachers to work long hours without getting paid overtime and spending their own money on classroom materials and professional development that really ought to be provided by school districts. But I digressacirc;euro;brvbar;enough of that. Back to my answeracirc;euro;brvbar; I was saying that whenever I ask myself how I did what I did as a teacher of young children my answer is always the same. I surrounded myself with a group of colleagues, not from my own school but other schools in the area, with whom I did my thinking. We worked to support, and encourage one another. Not too long ago I met an incredible group of teachers in Winnipeg Manitoba who also have supported one another through the ups and downs and the ins and outs of teaching. I was fortunate to be able to spend some time with them talking about critical literacy while we enjoyed a lovely dinner and shared some wine at an incredible restaurant in Winnipeg.
