from Community Matters Calhoun County · host Richard

Community Matters continues bringing various voices in the Committee for Marshall-Not the Megasite's attempts to thwart the Ford Motor Company BlueOval Battery Park Michigan development at the Megasite in Marshall, Michigan. On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, a circuit judge dismissed an amended complaint brought by the Committee, furthering dismissals he brought in September 2023. The Committee has been working to derail the development and put it up to referendum in Marshall. Attorneys for Ford and the Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance (MAEDA) have argued a Supreme Court case in Detroit sets precedent as to the manner in which the development has carried out. The judge has agreed. The Committee has announced its intentions to appeal. In the meantime, MAEDA attorney Richard Lindsey provides perspective from the defendant's side (watch for a new Community Matters interview soon with the attorney for the Committee), saying an appeal will get expensive and touch off court action that could lead to the Michigan Supreme Court.Episode ResourcesBlueOval Battery Park Michigan websiteFord Careers websiteMarshall, Michigan websiteMarshall Township,  Michigan websiteFord Motor Company press release about BlueOval Battery Park MichiganChoose Marshall-MAEDA websiteCATL websitePA 425 Conditional Land Use Transfer ExplainedCommittee for Marshall – Not the Megasite websiteCommittee for Marshall – Not the Megasite Facebook pageOther battery plant and Community Matters episodesABOUT COMMUNITY MATTERSFormer WBCK Morning Show host Richard Piet (2014-2017) returns to host Community Matters, an interview program focused on community leaders and newsmakers in and around Battle Creek. Prayer Time Heir Waves Prayer Time A podcast especially for our Prayer Time community NEWMORROW SESSIONS - A PodCast Series on the Future of Hospitality Mario C. Bauer, Florian Schneider, Axel Weber & Dr. Tillman Bardt The Newmorrow PodCast is more than a podcast — it's a platform for open dialog on the future of our business, a platform for those building what doesn’t exist yet. Here, we share and embrace our passion for the hospitality industry, but we won’t romanticize the journey. We ask the tough questions, confront uncomfortable truths, and prepare for a future that resists easy answers. We believe that the tougher and wilder times become, the more openly, honestly and humanely people need to talk to each other and act together. We believe, openness, togetherness, and truthfulness should also be cornerstones of a professional community to develop our utopian idea of „open source“. This is a space where visionaries don’t just imagine the future — they wrestle with the paradoxes that shape it: success vs. happiness, data vs. instinct, stability vs. reinvention. Join leaders, entrepreneurs, and thinkers as they share not what made them — but what’s actively shaping them, now and next. So tune in
