I'm your host, Marcus Engel, and I should not be alive right now.[00:14] The night that I was drug into the emergency room with my face crushed and both eyes blind, I should not have survived. But, I did. Thanks to the doctors, the nurses, the paramedics...all the circle of care throughout health professions that helped save my life. And for the last 20 plus years, I have dedicated my life to helping those who saved mine.[00:44] Here on "Compassion and Courage", we know that healthcare is tough. We know that when you are at the bedside, it is some of the most physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually demanding work that anybody could think of. And our goal here on the podcast is to help you remember WHY you chose to dedicate your life to this sacred work.[01:09] So, here on the podcast, you're going to get many, many stories of patient experience. You're going to hear stories from families, from survivors, from doctors, from nurses, from experts and researchers. You're going to hear about techniques to help you stay grounded and be present for your caregivers. And you're also going to get some fun along the way, too, because when we think of compassion, we always think of that as the antidote to suffering.
