Conan O’Brien on Hosting the Oscars

Johnny Mac focuses on Conan O’Brien hosting the Oscars tomorrow night. O’Brien says hosting isn’t about nonstop punchlines but guiding the show, balancing entertainment with acknowledging realities like the ongoing war in Iran, and staying topical as jokes quickly become outdated; he emphasizes heavy preparation while keeping the broadcast organic and ready for surprises. Showrunners note annual monitoring and security support from the FBI and LAPD. Mack highlights multiple O’Brien interviews (LA Times, LateNighter with Bill Carter, The New Yorker, and The Hollywood Reporter) covering topics including returning to host, cold open teases, pay for hosting, the 2022 Oscars hosts, and O’Brien’s approach to improvising when things go off the rails. The episode also lists South by Southwest comedy shows and performers for tonight at Creek and the Cave and Esther’s Follies,  00:18 Conan Hosts Oscars01:31 Topical Jokes and Safety02:44 Podcast Queue Detour03:18 Bill Carter Interview Highlights06:01 Hollywood Reporter Praise07:03 Oscars Pay and Past Hosts07:55 New Yorker Prep and Chaos09:15 Heightened Persona Talk10:51 Ad Free Subscription Pitch11:14 SXSW Comedy Listings Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/daily-comedy-news-with-johnny-mac--4522158/support.Today's DCN is brought to you by MyBookie use promo code DCN!Daily Comedy News is hosted by Johnny Mac and releases every weekday.
