Aloha Buddies! Back at the control deck here on Vinyl Community Podcasts to talk about a topic on my mind lately: why is there gatekeeping in this Vinyl Community of ours? For this convo I'm joined by Friend of the Show (FOS) Matt from the YouTube channel Vinyl Reckoning as we explore the whats and whys as to how record collecting is a hobby often prone to tactics, commentaries, and attitudes that can not be as inviting or inclusive as we'd hope it can be. Is this a generational thing? Does every hobby seem to have so-called "gatekeeping" to new entries young and old? Or is it just a bi-product of our internet culture run amok? We also extend the conversation to whether or not this attitude by the few affects the many in the form of gaslighting people who are simply wanting to share their vinyl journey with others online; be it on YouTube, forum boards, or social media platforms. Personally I've seen it push people out of the community (a real shame), and been on the receiving end of it from a small handful of people myself.
