Concert Buddie | New School vs Old School: Record Collecting Across Generations

from Vinyl Community Podcasts · host vinylcommunitypodcasts

Welcome in, Buddies! This 'sode of Vinyl Community Podcasts is a fun conversation I shared recently with Matt Dunn from the YouTube Channel Prime Analog Records and his daughter Bennett to discuss record collecting + music consumption in a "new school vs. old school" kind of way. Like most dads, Matt instilled his love of music early in Bennett's formative years, and we talk about why he felt it was important to share a diverse offering of musical styles + artists with her. Whereas Matt and myself were conditioned (#olds) to consume our music through physical media, Bennett is part of newer generations of listeners who employ their device(s) of choice to stream music: for discovery, ease, and convenience alike. Without the dominant influence of traditional terrestrial radio, how do we discover new bands + new music without having to spend inordinate amounts of time doing so? From there, Bennett takes us on a walk of her own music journey, including touching on admiration of present day artists like Taylor Swift, country music, and how she finds new music through streaming services while still building a record collection uniquely her own. We close with some light, fun, and curiosity-driven questions in the lightning round. Chinook Realm Religion and crime collide when a gruesome murder rocks the isolated community of Chinook, Montana. Local Deputy Ruth Vogel thought she was answering a routine animal control call, only to find a mangled corpse on the frozen embankment. Her small town is whipped into a frenzy and everyone is quick to point their fingers at a drug-addicted teenager, but Ruth suspects connections to a powerful religious group. Enter Agent Loro, an enigmatic FBI investigator tracking an evangelical cult that may have roots right here in Chinook. Loro and Ruth form a cautious partnership to find the killer—but as the mystery winds through Ruth’s life, her family, and her church, she’ll discover something more sinister than murder is afoot.Binge all episodes of Chinook exclusively and ad-free by joining Wondery+ in the Wondery App, Apple Podcasts or Spotify.
