Concert Buddie | Opening a Record Store: Billy Hurst of RiverBend Records

from Vinyl Community Podcasts · host vinylcommunitypodcasts

Have you ever thought about opening a record store? Our guest on this latest 'sode of Vinyl Community Podcasts thought about it - and did it! Joined by Billy Hurst, owner of RiverBend Records in Godfrey, Illinois, we pick his brain on just how he turned the dream most record collectors have into a bona fide reality. Before we get there, we learn about Billy's experience as part of the "Vinyl Community" on YouTube, his background in record collecting, and then what led him to the fateful decision to start a record store in the middle of a pandemic (really). RiverBend Records has been opened for just over three years, and there have been many learnings and challenges that Billy will share with us. Since opening, his shop has endeared itself not just to the local community (and St. Louis metro area), but has gained a following selling records through the Facebook platform on Monday nights. We'll learn more about that (including the last sale of 2023 the day this airs - Monday, December 18th, 6pm Central), and what future state + goals the shop has for the future. Been looking forward to doing this sitdown for sometime, and hope you enjoy it as much as we did!   For more information on host Concert Buddie: https://www.youtube.com/@ConcertBuddie   For more information on RiverBend Records: https://www.youtube.com/@BillyHurst https://www.instagram.com/riverbend_records https://www.facebook.com/RiverBendRecordsOfficial   Be sure to check out the final RiverBend Records online live sale on Monday, December 18th starting at 6pm Central at their Facebook page (link above). 10% of tomorrow night’s sale will benefit their local 5A’s Animal Shelter.   For more information on Vinyl Community Podcasts: https://vinylcommunitypodcasts.com

Chinook Realm Religion and crime collide when a gruesome murder rocks the isolated community of Chinook, Montana. Local Deputy Ruth Vogel thought she was answering a routine animal control call, only to find a mangled corpse on the frozen embankment. Her small town is whipped into a frenzy and everyone is quick to point their fingers at a drug-addicted teenager, but Ruth suspects connections to a powerful religious group. Enter Agent Loro, an enigmatic FBI investigator tracking an evangelical cult that may have roots right here in Chinook. Loro and Ruth form a cautious partnership to find the killer—but as the mystery winds through Ruth’s life, her family, and her church, she’ll discover something more sinister than murder is afoot.Binge all episodes of Chinook exclusively and ad-free by joining Wondery+ in the Wondery App, Apple Podcasts or Spotify.
