Concubinage in the Muslim World

In this episode, we examine the historical practice of concubinage in Islamic societies, its legal ties to slavery, the rights and status granted to some enslaved women, its role in imperial courts and harems, and its decline through abolition and changing norms, while also addressing modern scholarly rejection of the practice and condemnation of extremist attempts to revive it.
