Condemned By the "Righteous"
from The United Methodist Church at Absecon
Jesus had a Passover meal with his disciples, and then went into the Garden to Pray while 3 of his closest friends were asked to be with him. Then, the betrayal was completed. Judas arrived with a group of men to arrest Jesus. The suffering of Christ began many hours before he ever got to the cross. As he was arrested and brought to the High Priest, Caiaphas, he was beaten, mocked and spit on. Christ's suffering had already begun. He was put on trial in the middle of the night where supposedly righteous religious leaders sentenced him to death. Why? Because they were afraid; afraid that Jesus' ministry would take away their power. Fear makes us do things we shouldn't, and perhaps normally wouldn't, do.
