Công Trí is Hollywood’s Go-To Vietnamese Designer

from Voxcali · host Voxcali

After two decades in the industry, Công Trí has helped bring luxury Vietnamese designs to international runways and A-listers closets. The fashion industry has been noticing one Vietnamese designer in recent years as his looks have appeared on some of Hollywood’s biggest stars. His name is Công Trí and he was born in Da Nang, Vietnam. He grew up with seven siblings and began to show an interest in art at a young age, eventually leading him to study Industrial Fine Arts at the University of Architecture in Ho Chi Minh City. While at university, Công Trí won the New Idea award at the Vietnam Collection Grand Prix and received recognition at fashion competitions across Asia. This gave him the confidence to pursue fashion professionally and after graduating in 2001, he established CONG TRI and turned it into a luxury fashion house. Over the next decade, Công Trí became known for his detailed construction and meticulous handwork, leading his designs to be worn by Vietnam’s most influential entertainers. He incorporates local materials and craftsmanship into his pieces, turning traditional Vietnamese clothing into modern fashion that’s capable of competing on runways. Công Trí’s work began to catch eyes overseas after the release of his “Em Hoa”, or “Little Flowers” collection, which was inspired by Vietnamese flower sellers. The collection appeared at Tokyo Fashion Week and Rihanna’s stylist ended up requesting several pieces. Rihanna wore one of them in a photoshoot campaign, exposing Công Trí to the extraordinary list of celebrities that wore his designs after. His gowns have become popular choices for award shows, red carpet events, and many other high-profile moments in American pop culture. In recent years, you can find Công Trí’s designs on A-listers including Michelle Obama, Ariana Grande, Paris Hilton, Miley Cyrus, and Beyonce. In 2019 Công Trí became the first Vietnam-based designer to present a collection at New York Fashion Week, taking luxury Vietnamese fashion to one of the world’s most powerful runways. For over two decades, Công Trí has proven that Vietnam can also export original luxury design and creative direction. What began as one designer building his brand in Vietnam has evolved into a name seen on international stages and Hollywood red carpets, placing Vietnamese fashion in front of the world.
