They started this organization because of the massive gap Black, Latinx and other POC as well as QTPOC and LGBTQIA+ populations face. As someone who is connected with both communities, Madrone wanted to do something that could make an actual difference in the lives of others who have been historically excluded.Madrone’s experiences are informed through a combination of being multiethnic and queer identified. Having been born into an extremely religious, abusive and traumatic family of origin, which pushed her into the foster care system, brought with it the obvious challenges, but also the great gifts of learning to rise and finding one's voice in the middle of chaos and confusion. The path eventually led Madrone to find their way to pursue a Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work, with the vision to eventually be doing just this: Creating a space for others to find their strength, their voice and rise.In their spare time, they offer forensic evaluations to asylum seekers with Physicians for Human Rights and create native wildflower gardens for pollinators. They find their balance and calm in gardens and in the natural world.
