10-28-25  Conservative Commandos: WILL MAMDANI CONDEMN UGANDA FOR KILLING GAYS???!!!Uganda has outlawed homosexuality under its Anti-Homosexuality Act, 2023, which was signed into law by President Yoweri Museveni on May 29, 2023. The law is considered one of the world's harshest, and a constitutional court upheld most of its provisions in April 2024. Key provisions of the law:Life imprisonment: The law imposes life imprisonment for consensual same-sex relations.Death penalty: The penalty for "aggravated homosexuality" is death. This charge applies in cases involving same-sex relations with a minor, a disabled person, or if the offender is a repeat offender. In August 2023, a 20-year-old man was the first to be charged with "aggravated homosexuality" under the new law.Promotion of homosexuality: The law makes the "promotion" of homosexuality an offense, with a penalty of up to 20 years in prison. This provision has raised concerns for human rights defenders, LGBTQ+ organizations, and those providing services like HIV/AIDS care.Fleeing LGBTQ+ individuals: Following the law's passage, many LGBTQ+ Ugandans have fled to neighboring countries like Kenya, fearing for their safety.Court challenge: In April 2024, Uganda's Constitutional Court rejected a legal challenge seeking to overturn the law. The court did strike down some provisions, including those that criminalized the rental of premises for "homosexual purposes" and the failure to report certain homosexual acts to the police.
