Conspiracy For Revenge

Originally Aired: August 8, 1938The Lone Ranger #863, "Conspiracy For Revenge," finds Tonto waiting outside a cafe in Rushville as tensions explode. Mel Nugent, freshly released from a two-year prison sentence, rides into town seeking vengeance against Dan Adams, the rancher whose testimony put him behind bars for rustling. After a tense confrontation at the cafe that nearly turns deadly, Sheriff intervenes and orders Mel out of town. However, outside in the shadows, Jake Dietz, a hand working on Dan Adams' ranch, approaches Mel with a sinister proposal. Jake harbors his own grudge against Adams and his son-in-law Clayton Summers for ruining his chances of marrying Adams' daughter. The two bitter men scheme to use the law itself as their weapon of revenge.Meanwhile, Tonto takes a job as cook at the Adams ranch as part of a plan devised with the Lone Ranger. Just as Tonto arrives, Jake reports that a third of the cattle held in the corrals have been rustled overnight. As the men investigate the missing livestock and Jake claims to have found the rustlers' trail, the conspiracy begins to unfold with the masked rider's faithful companion positioned to uncover the truth.
