Contend For The Faith

from Victory Church Jbay · host Grant Walters

Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion.Jude 1:11This week we will be looking at the word that Pastor Grant Walters shared on Sunday entitled ‘Contend for the Faith’. Ps Grant highlighted three points out of the book of Jude that can be ‘knockout blows’ to us in our Christian walk.Firstly, we need to make sure not to walk in the way of Cain. We cannot play church and think that is enough. God does not want our self-righteous offerings; He wants us to live with genuine faith, in relationship with Him.Secondly, we need to avoid the error of Balaam. We need to maintain the integrity of our faith. It is easy to get distracted by material things, positions of authority or fame. We must remember that our relationship with God comes before all these things. We also need to make sure that we do not cause other believers to stumble. Finally, we need to combat the rebellion of Korah. God has placed people in positions of spiritual authority. We are to honour them, not speak or plan against them behind their backs. This applies even when they get things wrong. In which areas of your life are you operating in self-righteousness?What worldly distractions are tempting you to sacrifice your faith? How do you relate to your spiritual leaders? Do you need to repent for any rebellion, even just in your heart?
