Cool Runnings : Peace be the Journey

from The Pod Charles Cinecast · host The Prince Charles Cinema

This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas head to Calgary, Alberta, Canada to pay respects to the legendary Hart wrestling family, and stumble upon a group of Jamaican's training to be Olympic Bobsleighers. We take another dip in 1993 – The Filaversary – with John Turteltaub's sports comedy, COOL RUNNINGS, starring John Candy, Leon, Doug E. Doug, Rawle D. Lewis and Malik Yoba. Loosely based on the real story of the Jamaican bobsleigh team, that qualified to compete in the 1988 Winter Olympics, we take a look back on this 30-year-old classic, and have varying opinions on how it has held up. Expect lots of arguing, as we dive into how this one got made, an original version of the film, the true story behind the 1988 Jamaican team, and we show some love for John Candy and Leon Robinson (who is probably one of the more underrated Black American actors of his era – seriously, seek out his role as David Ruffin in The Temptations TV movie)."Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Get on up, it's bobsled time! Cool Runnings!"If you enjoy the podcast, leave a Rating and Review!
