Our police force is in crisis, and our criminal justice system has effectively collapsed. The Garda Representative Association has started its protest against roster changes due to kick in next month. This action saw Garda refusing voluntary overtime. Our Garda are over stressed , over worked , overwhelmed and under resourced . Little wonder we are loosing them at a greater rate than recruiting them . I couldn't have timed my conversation with Laura Young any better. Laura was a member of An Garda Síochána for 14 years before the immense stress took over, forcing her to give up on a career she had put so much time into building.
