Core 52 | Beginnings — Beginnings: COVENANT
from LifeWell Messages
This message surveys Scripture's covenants — Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David — each with conditions, blessings, and curses, before centering on the one Jesus established in Luke 22 . The setting is Passover, retelling the Exodus, the lamb's blood on the doorposts, and Sinai. Against 1,500 years of that practice, Jesus' words at the table — this is my body… do this in remembrance of me — would have stunned and even angered his hearers, reorienting Passover around himself. The distinction is drawn between ancient treaty types. The new covenant is a promissory one: only one party passes through the sacrifice, because it is wholly predicated on Christ. Fulfilling Jeremiah 31 , it is not a covenant but the covenant — salvation not by what we do but by what was done.
