This message examines the baptism of Jesus himself in Luke 3, where John the Baptist pleads to be baptized by Jesus instead. Jesus insists it is proper "to fulfill all righteousness," giving the act new meaning and walking through the doorway first. Two questions drive the teaching: why was the sinless one baptized, and what changed John's mind. The answers frame baptism as endorsement of John's prophesied role and, more importantly, an example and invitation — picturing a divine exchange where Jesus takes the death we earned. Immersion is defended from the consistent New Testament word and from Romans 6 as the clearest symbol of dying and rising with Christ.
