Core 52 | The Bottom Line — ELECTION
from LifeWell Messages
Some of Jesus' teaching is comforting; some draws a line in the sand. This study takes up the difficult Parable of the Wedding Banquet in Matthew 22, where a king's invited guests refuse to come, mistreat his servants, and the invitation is thrown open to everyone, good and bad alike. The exposition reads the parable first as Israel's history of rejecting God's Son, then as an invitation marked by joy, by love, and by limits, since no one knows how long they have to respond. The guest without wedding clothes pictures someone present but unwilling to be devoted, having never cast off the old for the new. The teaching closes by holding together genuine free will and God's foreknowledge: all are invited and called, the boundaries of salvation are set in Christ, and the question remains whether each person will accept.
