Coriolanus - Episode 1 - You Bleed

Calling for an end to democracy, the brilliant Roman General and war hero Caius Martius (Coriolanus) shames the starving and rioting citizens of Rome for their lack of military service. Meanwhile, the Volcian army, led by Martius’s blood enemy Tullus Aufidius, marches towards Rome. Welcome to the premiere episode of the Play On Podcasts' Series Coriolanus. Synopsis: The citizens of Rome, starving for grain during a post-war food shortage, riot against the aristocracy and blame the brilliant Roman General and war hero Caius Martius (Coriolanus) for their troubles. Menenius Agrippa, a Roman patrician, defends Caius Martius until Martius arrives and begins to mock and shame the people for their lack of military service, calling for an end to democracy. As he’s speaking, word arrives that a Volcian army is in the field. Martius leaves to fight them. In response to his speech, two Roman tribunes, Brutus and Sicinius, secretly denounce Martius and vow to keep an eye on him. Meanwhile, the Roman army, including their general Cominius, meets the Volcian forces and their commander, Tullus Aufidius, at the Volcian city of Coriolis. Martius’s wife, Virgilia, and his mother, Volumnia, await his return as Martius leads a rally against Coriolis, where he is locked within the city walls. He survives and single-handedly conquers Coriolis, then joins Cominius in fighting other Volcian forces elsewhere in the field, where he ends up in single combat with Aufidius, who is dragged away from the battle by his own soldiers.
