The total number of confirmed corona virus cases in China stands at over twenty-thousand as of Tuesday morning, an increase of three thousand two hundred and thirty five on the previous day. Meanwhile the death toll is now at over four hundred in China, an increase of around sixty five from Sunday. As the death toll in China rises fears are growing over Africa’s ability to protect its citizens from the rapidly spreading coronavirus epidemic as the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the outbreak a public health emergency of international concern. However, Africa’s porous land borders remain a cause for concern among policymakers and health professionals, who fear that unchecked migration and transport between countries could spread the virus quickly. We are joined by: • Dr Pete Vincent from the Netcare Travel clinics and medicross Tokai • Dr Kerrigan McCarthy- she is a pathologist at the National Institute for Communicable Diseases in South Africa • Dr Michel Yao, is the Head of the World Health Organisation (WHO) country Office
