Coronavirus & cattle stations
from Central Station - True Stories from Outback Australia · host Central Station
I’m sure by now that you are well and truly sick of hearing about the coronavirus… or COVID-19. Whether or not the virus itself is as deadly and threatening as it is reported to be, we cannot deny the impact it is having on our economy and community. First of all, it feels like a pretty dang good time to be living in some of the most remote parts of the world. I think we can appreciate the reduced risk of coming into contact with individuals who are ill, because we just don’t see that many people on a day to day basis, let alone strangers. Here’s the thing though: just because we’re likely to have a lower risk of contracting the coronavirus, it doesn’t mean we’re untouchable, or that we won’t feel the effects of it. In this episode I want to discuss a couple different points: How reduce the risk of contraction and what to do if you’re living in a rural or remote location and start to identify with any of the symptoms. For this, I’m going to be chatting with Dr Katie Clift, Head Medical Consultant (Queensland Section), Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia. And secondly, I want to have a chat about how this whole coronavirus pandemic is affecting people in rural and remote Australia, including lockdowns on cattle stations and Indigenous communities, station supplies, and the impact on small business.
