Era la metà di febbraio del 1637 quando nelle Province Unite - gli attuali Paesi Bassi – scoppiò la bolla speculativa sui prezzi dei tulipani o, per meglio dire, i bulbi di tulipano. Nel giro di pochi mesi i prezzi erano saliti di oltre il 200% per poi crollare nel giro di pochi giorni: l’innesco della crisi, un’asta andata male, che portò al crollo dei prezzi. I tulipani all’epoca erano il vanto e l’emblema della ricchezza dei commercianti fiamminghi che commerciavano dal Sudamerica all’estremo oriente. E dopo questa crisi, per secoli, diventarono il calco delle bolle speculative successive, dai mari del sud alle ferrovie, dalle radio di wall street nel ’29 alla new economy del 2000.
