UW-La Crosse political science professor, Dr. Anthony Chergosky, on 83-year-old Tommy Thompson giving “serious consideration” to entering the Wisconsin governor’s race, allowing voters — not county boards or city councils — to vote on wheel taxes, and how it’s illegal to skateboard on Wisconsin streets, but the Legislature could change that. We started, though, with a bit of the politics surrounding the government shutdown and the fact that the Wisconsin Supreme Court officially has a race now for its next open seat, with conservative Maria Lazar joining progressive Chris Murphy — and whether it could cost $100 million again. After that, we get into the timing of Republican Thompson floating the idea of getting into the governor’s race — right after U.S. House Rep. Tom Tiffany announced and was thought to be the GOP favorite. We discuss the age factor, as Thompson would be 85 at the time of taking office, if he were to win. Lastly, we review a couple of the proposed bills in the Wisconsin state Legislature. One would allow wheel tax charges to go to voters instead of city councils or county boards.
