Could Review Of Primary School Hours Lead To Changes In Time Children Spend In Classroom?

The Department of Education is preparing to review primary school hours for the first time in decades, with changes to the school day for younger pupils among the issues under consideration.    While many parents would welcome an end to staggered collection times, others argue the focus should be on reducing pressure in the classroom rather than increasing time spent there.   Chair of the Oireachtas Education Committee, Meelick Fianna Fáil TD and former teacher Cathal Crowe has been advocating for a school system inspired by the Finnish model, with more regular breaks, a streamlined curriculum and less homework.   Earlier, Alan Morrissey spoke with Cathal to discuss the review and the future of primary education in Ireland.
