Councillors Under Siege Online | Birmingham News

Melton councillors are under fire from escalating online abuse—including racist threats aimed at them and their families—creating a dangerous, personal toll that’s chilling public service. As harassment ties directly to policy decisions, the line between politics and personal safety blurs, forcing elected officials into a hostile digital environment. With authorities struggling to contain the spread of vitriol, this trend threatens to deter future leaders and undermine local democracy. It’s a stark warning: protecting those who serve is not optional—it’s essential for a healthy, engaged community.
