Click the link https://www.digistore24.com/redir/357631/NoiseMaker/Austin Thompson, Lawrenceville City Councilman, was selected by his fellow City Council Members and Mayor David Still on Wednesday, December 14, to serve as the Mayor Pro Tem (Vice Mayor) for the City of Lawrenceville during 2023. This role is responsible for fulfilling the duties of the mayor if the mayor is absent. The mayor pro tem also fills any vacancy in the office of mayor until that office can be filled through a special or general election. Mr. Thompson was elected to serve on Lawrenceville’s City Council in 2021 and has been a Lawrenceville resident since 2012. Austin Thompson emigrated from the Cooperative Republic ofGuyana, South America, in 1977. He resided in Brooklyn, N.Y.from 1977 until 1992, when he relocated to Georgia. Afterresiding in several cities around the metro Atlanta area, hebecame a resident of Lawrenceville in 2012. In 2014, Austinwas appointed to the Architectural Review Board by thenMayor, Judy Jordan Johnson. Also, he served one year as boardmember on the Lawrenceville Neighborhood Alliance. Austinresigned from both board positions in January 2021 to embarkon his second campaign for a City Council Seat. He was alsoappointed to serve on the Lawrenceville 2040 SteeringAustin has over 30 years of combined community service leadership and youth mentoring with severalorganizations, such as Community Action Network Initiatives (CANI), the Guyana Association of Georgia(GAOG), Caribbean Association of Georgia (CAG), and the Latin America Association (LAA). He iscurrently an Advisory Board Member with Discovery High School, mentoring students in the Business andEntrepreneurship Academy.Austin has over 25 years as an EMC/EMI Electronic Engineer, specializing in the Regulatory Complianceindustry. In addition to working in an engineering function, he is responsible for senior projectmanagement and business development tasks. Austin is also a small business consultant, author andwriter, speaker, and past adjunct professor of undergraduate business at Shorter University.He holds an Associate of Applied Science in Electronic Engineering Technology and a Bachelor of AppliedScience in Telecommunications Management from DeVry University.
