Counselor Retention

Well, this was easily the hottest topic at NACAC in Houston - how the Great Resignation impacts admissions offices.  Holding on to great admissions counselors has always been important - but it's now also top of mind and what everyone is talking about.  In this week's episode, we hope to provide you with more arguments and rationale to take back to your campus as you look to initiate strategies to hold on to your staff.  We detail the benefits of holding on to staff and underscore the negative impacts when counselor transition occurs. This week's guests help us navigate this topic in a relevant and easy-to-understand way. Amanda Booth, Director of College Counseling at Wichita Collegiate School in Wichita, Kansas, talks about how a counselor transition impacts the students and counselors you are working with. Julie Nelson, Assistant Dean of Admission at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio (but regionally based in Batavia, Illinois), discusses the management aspect of keeping counselors happy, challenged, and retained.
